Tours and Family Childbirth Classes

All Classes take place in the Childbirth Classroom (1G184) of the Women’s & Children’s Center.  Click here for a map.


Individuals are encouraged to sign up at least 3-4 months prior to their due date as class space is limited and fills up quickly.  Please call our Women's Line at (254) 202.9663 to register.
 

Childbirth Classes:

Classes are offered either three consecutive weekday evenings or two consecutive Saturday mornings. Cost is $50 for those delivering at Hillcrest and $65 for those delivering elsewhere. This covers the full series of classes, an optional breastfeeding class, a tour of the facility and an information packet.

*Participants are encouraged to bring a snack and something to drink and to wear comfortable clothing.

 
Breastfeeding Classes

This two hour class offers mommies a chance to sit down with our educators and learn all there is to know about breastfeeding their new baby. Topics include: 

  • Admitting
  • Latch on and positioning
  • Burping and colostrum
  • Importance of frequent feedings
  • How do you know if your baby is getting enough milk
  • Engorgement
  • Growth spurts
  • Babies' stools
  •  Pumping & types of pumps
  • Assessments of the breast
  • Benefits of breastfeeding
  • Breast and nipple care
  • Nutrition for mommy
  • Medications and milk

 Classes conclude with a pump demonstration, video and question and answer period.

All classes are taught by Hillcrest’s certified lactation consultants. Classes are $10 per person and are intended for females only. The fee is waived if you are enrolled and paid for a childbirth class series.

Childbirth Tours

Individuals interested in delivering at Hillcrest for the first time may sign up for a childbirth tour. Tours of the Women’s & Children’s Center include visiting Labor & Delivery, Recovery   Areas, Post Partum, Newborn Nursery and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Tours are offered the first Tuesday of each month in the Women’s and Children’s Lobby. For more information or to register, call our Women's Line at 254.202.9663.
