What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy uses purposeful activity or intervention to restore an individual to his or her highest possible level of independence. Occupational therapy provides services to individuals limited by physical injury, illness, dysfunctional conditions, cognitive impairment, developmental disability, trauma or conditions present at birth.

How is Someone Referred to Occupational Therapy?
Physician referrals are necessary for participation in therapy and appointments are needed. Hillcrest Occupational Therapy is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Hillcrest accepts Medicare, Medicaid, most major insurances and self-pay.

What Services Does Hillcrest Occupational Therapy Provide?
Hillcrest Occupational Therapy recognizes that no two diagnoses are the same. In order to help each patient with specific therapy needs, the Occupational Therapist, with the approval of the patient's physician, designs a plan of care. Depending upon individual needs, a patient typically receives treatment two to three times a week. A home program is often developed to optimize recovery time.
Hillcrest's facility is equipped with a splint room, Baltimore therapeutic Exercise Equipment, MULE (pediatric software for upper limb exercise), a pediatric gym, a kitchen and bathroom for practice in activities of daily living and a full complement of standardized tests.
Hillcrest's occupational therapists have advanced training in hand therapy, wrist rehabilitation, elbow rehabilitation, shoulder rehabilitation, ergonomics, handwriting, pediatrics, lymphedema and neurodevelopmental technique (NDT).
Hillcrest Occupational Therapy also utilizes Hillcrest's continuum of care, working with Hillcrest Inpatient Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech Therapy to ensure a patient receives the best possible rehabilitation process.
