The Orthopedic Team

The Joint Care Center at Hillcrest is dedicated to restoring motion and improving an active life. The program consists of a multi-disciplinary team made up of physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers and social workers. Working together, these skilled professionals provide a full complement of patient services:

  • Pre-operative education class;
  • Advanced planning for hospital care and post hospital care;
  • On-site rehabilitation; and
  • Discharge plans, addressing special patient needs.

The Joint Care Center is located on the orthopedic unit, fully equipped with therapy chairs, mats, stairs, walkers, tubs, showers and adaptive equipment used to provide a full recovery. The team is specifically trained to provide a quality of care that decreases hospital length of stay, and will quickly help you return to an active quality of life that you love.

A special education component has been developed for patients having joint replacement surgery at Hillcrest. All patients also attend a “What to Expect” seminar prior to their surgery. A nurse will review what to expect on the day of surgery, post-surgery and at discharge. This is an excellent opportunity to have questions answered and put minds at ease.

Hillcrest employs therapists who are specially trained to utilize various treatment procedures, depending on each patient’s unique needs, to maximize range of motion, strength, and functional abilities, with a minimal amount of pain, following a joint replacement.

Orthopedic nurses are specialized in helping patients manage their pain to provide for a quicker recovery. Research has proven that patients who manage their pain better participate in therapy and heal much quicker.
