Breast Center Features Fully Digital Mammography
Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center recently added digital mammography to its comprehensive diagnostic services. Digital mammography has been proven to provide superior image quality. Several benefits include: improved detection of abnormalities; reduced radiation exposure; shorter exam times; reduced waiting time for appointments; and fewer call backs for additional films.
All mammograms are read by a board certified radiologist who reports the results back to the referring physician.
Breast Biopsy Services
Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center offers the MultiCare® Platinum Stereotactic Breast Biopsy System, a state-of-the-art system designed to improve the quality, accuracy, and ease of breast biopsies. The system uses advanced computer-assisted technology, known as digital stereotactic localization, to map the precise site of a breast abnormality before a tissue sample is taken for biopsy. Samples can then be obtained through a very small incision in the skin, minimizing procedure time, tissue trauma, and wound healing time. The unique design of the system allows a woman to be in a prone (patients lie on their stomach) position while the biopsy is being performed, for maximum patient comfort.
Hillcrest has been performing stereotactic breast biopsies since 1991. The dedicated staff is comprised of four registered mammographers and 10 physicians who are experts at performing breast biopsy procedures.
Grants
The Central Texas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has provided Hillcrest with a grant for 2012 to provide screening mammograms for those with no insurance who cannot afford their exams.
