All adult volunteers must take part in an assessment interview and participate in a general orientation to Hillcrest prior to beginning their work. Individuals who volunteer in areas where patients are served must receive a TB test before beginning work. For those who will work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, proof of having had chicken pox or an inoculation against this illness is required. It is preferred that volunteers work in four-hour time shifts, either 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Other time periods may be available depending upon the areas in which volunteers are working. Some evening and weekend time periods are also possibilities.
