One of the goals of trauma centers is to reduce traumatic injuries by participating in prevention efforts. Hillcrest Trauma Services injury prevention falls into three categories. First, they support preventive legislation such as laws that limit the sale of alcohol to teenagers. Second, they identify specific injuries and risk factors in the community and work together with pre-hospital providers and community groups to encourage preventive measures by community members. Finally, as the lead trauma facility, Hillcrest works to improve patient outcomes following injury by constantly improving the trauma system from pre-hospital care to rehabilitation.

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Not wearing a bicycle helmet
  • Not wearing a seat belt
  • Children under nine years of age walking or playing near streets unsupervised
