The Need For Blood

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

The average adult has 10 - 12 pints of blood traveling all over his or her body through the heart, lungs, arteries, veins and capillaries. Blood is an essential part of our bodies that transports oxygen, nutrients, and metabolic waste.

Trauma is one of the main reasons why patients need blood.  As a Trauma Center, Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center has a great, regular need for blood.  Blood can not be manufactured, so volunteers are extremely important.

Carter BloodCare visits Hillcrest every eight weeks for a volunteer blood drive.  Everyone is encouraged to give! Some requirements include:
 •   Must be at least 17 years old or older to give.
 •   A valid picture ID.
 •   Must weigh at least 110 pounds.
 •   Must be feeling well and healthy on the day of donating.

For more information on the next blood drive, call (254) 202-4300.
