Managed Care
Managed care has become a common phrase included in most discussions about health care. Acronyms such as HMO and PPO have been added to our vocabularies as we try to sort through the myriad of choices we face for our businesses and families. In recent years, Hillcrest has introduced two managed care options in Central Texas: BRAZOS VALLEY HEALTH NETWORK and PREMIER HEALTH.
PREMIER HEALTH is a preferred provider Medicare supplement program. Plan members choose any physician who accepts Medicare. Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center is the participating hospital. For more information about PREMIER HEALTH, call (254) 202-5340.
BRAZOS VALLEY HEALTH NETWORK, a PHO (Preferred Hospital Organization), was introduced in Central Texas in 1992. The provider panel is made up of 305 physicians and 10 hospitals. To date, there are 65,300 plan members in twelve counties. For more information about BRAZOS VALLEY HEALTH NETWORK, ask your insurance representative or call (254) 202-5324.
Those covered by a PHO have a choice between utilizing network or non-network providers. If plan members use a preferred provider, their share of the cost is less than if they choose to use an out-of-network provider.
