Teen Safe

TeenSafe  is a prevention program promoting education, responsibility and empowerment concerning traffic safety for preteens, teens, parents, schools and communities in Central Texas Every year more than 6,000 teenagers die in automobile crashes.  In the TeenSafe program, we believe that crashes are no accident.  There are multiple factors that contribute to crash fatalities (cell phone use, texting, speeding, seatbelt use, and alcohol/drug use to name a few) and we believe that these are preventable.

TeenSafe is an injury prevention program sponsored by Hillcrest Regional Trauma Center in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation.  Our mission is to promote education, responsibility and empowerment concerning traffic safety for preteens, teens, parents, schools and communities in Central Texas .

TeenSafe  conducts FREE programs to students (ages 5-19), their parents/guardians, and the community in general.  In the past we have provided a variety of services, from providing lunch tables to large presentations to schools.  We work in a variety of ways to provide the community accurate, up to date information in order to change the growing trend of traffic fatalities.

Why start so young?
In the past 2 years TeenSafe has conducted anonymous assessments within the schools we service.  These assessments revealed that the average age that students first tried alcohol was only 11 years old.  Attitudes toward alcohol start even earlier.
