Clinical Pastoral Education Program

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) provides clergy, seminary students and laypersons with a clinical education of ministry. The clinical model of learning consists of action and reflection. CPE facilitates pastoral formation and ministry development through supervised practice of ministry and the student/supervisor contract of learning.

Students are able to give and receive feedback about their ministry and ideas from the CPE supervisor, their peer group and a number of other professionals. Feedback and reflection are fostered through a variety of seminars. The Interpersonal Relationship Seminar provides students a forum to share and discuss interpersonal concerns arising from their ministry and lives. Didactic seminars introduce learning topics from the fields of theology, medicine, ethics and the behavioral sciences in the form of lecture and discussion. In verbatim seminars, peers review a student's verbatim account of an actual pastoral encounter. Other learning experiences include Theological Integration Seminar, Worship Seminar and Multidisciplinary Case Review.
