Medical/Surgical Nursing
Orthopedics/Neurology is a 25-bed surgical unit established to care for total joint surgeries, fractures, spinal surgeries, brain surgeries, head injuries and sports injuries. General Surgery has a total bed capacity of 21 and average census of 18. Surgical procedures include general surgery, urology, eye, ear, nose, throat, cardiovascular, plastic, thoracic, EGD, E.R.C.P. and procedures for controlling long-term pain. This unit pioneered the use of the Bladder Scanner, on-line charting and controlling long-term pain. Oncology is a 23-bed unit dedicated to the care of cancer including lung, breast and ovarian cancer. General Medicine/Renal is a 23-bed unit caring for a wide range of acutely ill medical patients including end-stage renal disease, COPD, CVA, TIA, pneumonia and sickle cell crisis. Comprehensive Rehabilitation is a 20-bed unit providing rehabilitation services. Nurses are an integral part of a multidisciplinary team of physical and occupational therapists, speech pathologists and physicians who care for a variety of afflictions including stroke, orthopedics, trauma, autoimmune disorders and closed head injuries.
Surgical Services
The Ambulatory Care Unit is a 28-bed day surgery facility providing pre- and post-operative care for special procedures. It is open Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The SurgiCenter has 5 operating suites for ear, nose and throat, ophthalmologic, plastic, orthopedic and gynecological outpatient surgeries.
Endoscopy is also open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with "on-call" availability 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week. The two treatment rooms are outfitted with state-of-the-art video equipment to perform such procedures as colonoscopy, EGD, ERCP and PEGs.
The PACU is a 10-bed recovery area open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Main Operating Room is a 24 hour-a-day, seven day a week facility with 10 operating suites and two cysto rooms. All types of surgery are performed including trauma and cardiovascular procedures.
Maternal/Child Nursing
Kidsville, The Children's Hospital at Hillcrest, is our 29-bed general pediatric unit, with six intermediate care beds. This specially designed unit was created for children, from infants to adolescents, and their families to have a home away from home.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 24-bed Level III facility. As a regional referral center, our team transports and cares for infants at risk in a state-of-the-art unit.
The Mother/Baby Unit consists of post-partum and newborn nurseries. It is a 24-bed/35 bassinet unit. The multi-disciplinary team approach used includes a variety of educational programs and lactation specialists.
Labor and Delivery delivers almost 3,000 babies a year in eight beautiful Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms (LDRs). Over 60% of our patient population is considered high-risk.
Gynecology serves prenatal, failed induction, post-partum and gynecologic disease patients. The 14-bed unit cares for patients with PID, incomplete abortion, hysterectomies, D&Cs, high risk antepartum conditions and any other female-related conditions.
Hillcrest Health System also offers internships for new graduate RNs and LVNs in all the clinical specialties mentioned above.
