Frequently Asked Questions
What positions are available in the internship? Interns will be hired into actual RN and LVN vacancies in the Hillcrest Health System. Vacancy lists are posted in the Human Resources Department on the second floor of the Pace building. Hillcrest recruitment staff will be available during regular business hours to assist you with identifying specific job opportunities. What will my salary be in the internship? Your salary will be either the base salary for registered nurses or licensed vocational nurses depending on which type of program you have completed. You will be eligible for shift differentials and weekend premium pay once you have successfully completed the internship. What type of work schedule will I have during the internship? Every Tuesday of the internship will be a classroom day. The other 32 hours you work each week will be clinical experience. Your schedule for those hours will reflect that of your preceptor, so they will vary. You might be working days, evenings, nights, and/or weekends. Are all new graduates required to go through the internship? We feel very strongly that the curriculum of the internship would be of a positive benefit to any new graduate. However, we recognize, due to individual circumstances, the internship may not be appropriate for everyone for a variety of reasons. Ultimately, your participation in the internship will be a decision negotiated between you and your manager. How do I apply for the internship? Simply fill out a regular employment application in Human Resources. When you apply for a GN or GVN position on any unit, you will automatically be applying for the internship as well. The recruitment staff in HR will facilitate the interviewing process for you. Current Associates should fill out transfer requests. What is the deadline for applying? To find out the next application deadline, please call the Hillcrest Department of Human Resources at 202-8691. What type of commitment will I be required to make? As with any new Associate, it is our sincere hope we are building a long term, professional relationship throughout your orientation and employment with Hillcrest. Because the internship represents such a major commitment in time, money and other resources from Hillcrest Health System, we are seeking graduates for the internship who have a strong commitment to a long-term relationship with us. If for some reason you feel a long term commitment is not possible for you, we would like to pursue other employment options at Hillcrest with you.
