Trauma Center (Injury Prevention Programs)
Did you know the number of traffic related deaths that occur in the United States each year is equivalent to a daily 737 jet crash? Last year, Hillcrest treated over 600 trauma patients with serious or life-threatening injuries.
Almost 30 Texans die every day from traumatic injuries; almost 10,000 each year. Trauma is the leading cause of death in persons aged 1-44 years. For every trauma victim who dies, at least six are seriously injured.
The facts are staggering, but Central Texas has a system in place to help prevent trauma and treat trauma victims. Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center has been verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as meeting the criteria for a Trauma Center. What this means to Central Texans is the level of care provided by the Trauma Team at Hillcrest meets the same standards as other advanced trauma facilities across the nation.
Hillcrest works together with emergency medical service providers, physicians, specialists and area hospitals to provide a full continuum of trauma resources to Central Texans. Studies have shown that such coordination of the emergency medical resources can result in a significant decrease in trauma deaths and disability. -
